I don't understand this. Obviously everyone is going to vote MKWii. MK64 was good 10 years ago when the expectations were not high. Since technology improves over time, MKWii is going to be better since it is newer and has improved since MK64.

I think Mario Kart Wii is better than Mario Kart 64. Mario Kart Wii includes some of the Mario Kart 64 course. It also has a better character selecition. You also unlock new things in Mario Kart Wii.

The quality of race tracks, the newer items and the new style doesn't appeal as much to me. I loved Mario Kart 64 because of the tracks, battlefields and simplicity.

mk64: it's what mosty started mario kart. (super mario kart was the 1st mk game but it wasn't big as the 64).
mkwii: the online is what mkwii is bigger than brawl.

They're both good. MK64 had great music and soundtracks,and great online play in mkwii keeps it balanced compared to brawl's online play,brawl lags,and mkwii has great soundtracks as well. So both.

Why is it that when people make a comparison they ALWAYS say the newer one is better?

They're both the same thing. One just has more levels than the last and more karts.
