Something I noticed in the original Pokemon...

In Red/Blue version, remember when you meet Gary in the Pokemon Tower in Lavender Town?

Remember how he brought up if you were visiting a dead pokemon?

Early on, Gary had captured his first Pokemon, a Ratatta, which you fought if you went west of Viridian City early in the game. It later evolved into a Raticate that you fought on the S.S. Anne.

You never see his Raticate again. It passed away.

That along with the other 30-35 pokemon he caught. He mentions that he only 40 pokemon caught, but there are only 5 in his party. Maybe his training was too harsh.
