All right, I searched around, and I haven't found a thread on this topic.
Who do you think is likely to be in the next Smash Brothers game?
I'm not asking who you want to be in Smash, because I know every fanboy is just going to answer Tails and Cloud.
I'm asking who do you think is
LIKELY to make it into Smash.
Please don't answer "HALO, BECAUSE HE'S A PRETTY COOL GUY". Give some reasons.
Here are my predictions:
Likely Characters
The main character(s) from Monado: Beginning of The World will be in. All his rights are owned by Nintendo, he's a new character, pretty much guaranteed playable.
The antagonist of the new Zelda Wii title. Everybody is going to play the new Zelda
Wii, and I can pretty much also guarantee that whatever antagonist appears will appear in Smash in some form.
An inevitable current-gen Pokemon will be added. This is non-negotiable.
Saki or the new Sin and Punishment character The success of Sin and Punishment on the VC was enough to warrant production of a full-fledged
Wii sequel, it's very likely that the star of that game will make it into the next Smash, or at least they'll retain Saki.
"Isaac" from Golden Sun. With the godly amount of win of the announcement of Golden Sun
DS, Nintendo would have to be stupid to not include Isaac, (or the his look-alike "descendant"). I personally really want to see Felix, and it's possible he may make it in, but Felix likely would not be playable.
Maxwell from Scribblenauts. Definitely NOT playable, but it seems very likely Nintendo will at least give a tip of the hat to Scribblenauts by having him as an assist trophy.
Possible Characters
Travis Touchdown from No More Heroes. Everyone loves Travis, but their recent announcement of their departure from Nintendo may be an indication that the rights for Travis would be up in the air. His creator has indicated interest in Travis being in Smash, but I'd still put it as only being possible.
Little Mac. Now, talk of Little Mac has been circulating for a while, and his revival in the new Punch Out may give him enough steam to make it onto the roster. Plus, it'd be fun to box opponents. You have to keep in mind, Nintendo is after unique playstyles to mix up Smash, which is why Little Mac and the Sin and Punishment characters are shoo-ins.
Donbe from Shin Oni Ga Shima. Anyone remember Donbe? Probably not, but he's a little kid with super strength. If there's any classic character Nintendo is going to pull out of their own butt for the new Smash, it's him. He's also very famous in Japan.
Pulseman
One of Game Freak's first games was Pulseman, a game that achieved legendary status on the Genesis, due to its gameplay and graphics. Now, I know what you're thinking, CROSS-PLATFORMAN? What is this madness? But Game Freak hasn't made any money off Pulseman in a long time, and seeing as they make all their money from Pokemon now, and how they're practically a part of Nintendo now due to it's massive popularity, it would be VERY easy for Nintendo to acquire the rights to Pulseman. They've already acquired the rights for the translation on Virtual Console, so Nintendo is pretty much halfway there already. Plus, in Pokemon Platinum, Rotom was based off of Pulseman, and the main battle theme is actually a remix of Pulseman's Stage 1 theme. He retains his influence even today, and he would also have a unique combat sytle.
Unlikely Characters
Kairu from Black Sigil
Hailed as one of the best RPG's on the
DS, Black Sigil was a true sleeper hit, and was very reminiscent of Chrono Trigger. Nintendo would be wise to include Kairu, but seeing as Black Sigil didn't sell very well, and the game HAS ENOUGH SWORDS ALREADY, I wouldn't say it's very likely.
Marina from Mischief Makers.
Nintendo brought Brawl onto the scene with a lot of classic characters nobody ever heard of, but surprisingly, they left out Marina. I don't know if anyone played Mischief Makers, but from what I understand, it was regarded as one of the funnest games of the N64. If Nintendo were to start resurrecting more old characters, I'd say Marina might have a shot.
Mega Man
As much as you want it to happen, Mega Man will most likely not make it into Smash. He's already appeared in multiple Capcom fighting games, and it's clear that he is the property of Capcom, and Capcom doesn't share. That's like asking for Ryu. Enough said. There's always the slim chance of miracles happening, but I'd say that is a VERY SLIM chance.
Opoona
Nobody has heard of Opoona. Nobody. The only reason he's listed is because of his completely strange playstyle. Nintendo wants to add new elements to the gameplay, and they've been doing that with unique character designs, like Olimar, Pit, and G&W. Opoona fights with a levitating bon-bon he throws with his mind, and his game was a
Wii exclusive. But as I said before, nobody has ever heard of him, which is why he's on the "Not Likely" list.
NO.
Master Chief
Any Sonic Characters
Cloud/Sephiroth
Sora
Anyway, post your thoughts, what do you think about these character choices, and are there any characters you think would have a fair shot of making it in?
