In an interview with GTTV, the Regginator himself (Reggie Fils-Aime) straight up said the rumors of an alleged HD were false, and no such thing exists. He was pretty blatant about it too.

I don't mind not having HD too terribly, as i have both Wii and 360. However, I hope the next nintendo console is sure to compete on all levels. Graphics and gameplay both count, because while graphics aren't everything, they are definitely something.

To save threads, why not we all just say to ourselves that Nintendo isn't going nor wants to create anything awesome. It seems that way right? Guarantee you in 10 years Nintendo doesn't even remove the friendcode ordeal because it'll be too much of a risk to someone's life or some bull.
