Do you think the Mario Series have gone down a bit?

I've been a long time fan of Mario and my all time favorite game with Mario is 'Super Mario Sunshine' and now i have 'Super Mario 3D Land' but it doesnt really give me the same joy as Sunshine did, could it be because its hand-help verse the gamecube console? Or are the older games in general just more fun?

Let me know what your favorite Mario Game is and give me some feedback on my theory. Has the Mario franchise gone down in the past few years? or, is it the fact that the old versions of Mario are simply better than the new ones? Is my opinion wrong, let me know.

My favorite Mario games are Mario RPGs for a reason. I do love Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario Sunshine, but the problem with the new games is they try to hard to cater to nostalgia, rather than just change things.

Galaxy was a step in the right direction, but then they made Galaxy 2 and just added Yoshi. I like games to be different.

I agree with you. I used to love the old games. Now another Mario game, and it's kinda like, meh.

I love 3D Land, but I don't enjoy them as much as I did a few years ago. I figure that it is because I am growing up and likely outgrowing Mario games. Sadly Paper Mario: Sticker Star will likely be my last mario game, I hope it rocks.

Well, like I said about that new Mario Bros. game on the 3DS: That game has Wario's name written all over it. Current Mario games in my opinion are OK. But I haven't seen one that sticked out to me in a very long time.

I think the current mario and the classic mario turned for two different paths. they are much different from each other like black and white

I mean, it's just Mario. Makes any kid out there enjoyable playing he's games.
I don't play new Mario games anymore because I was into his games when I was younger.
Now I like shooting games and stuff, :D

Thanks for the replies, i'm glad to see i got some feedback on this topic! @Skuntank - Exactly, thats why i liked Super Mario Sunshine so much, because it was different, it drew me in with the different nozzles and adventures it brought me! @BmanNintendo - I could never really get into the papermario games, i just didnt see the point in them, i'm a piece of paper..yay? @Rekop - Mario's just been the game that anyone can pick up regardless of age and enjoy it, but like rlscot8 said another one comes out and Meh. That is how mario is being seen now, its just not fun like it used to be and thats the whole topic of the thread, has the franchise gone downhill and i believe, yes, it definitively has.

Gone down in quality? Nope. Thing's are just changing. I like change for the most part, keeps things fresh.

My favorite definitely has to be Mario Sunshine, I love the Mario series but i have been a little disappointed in the New Super Mario Bros. games. There not bad games, but i feel it's been a little repetitive in art style in game play. It's just weird seeing a Mario game that's not so different from the last which is what Mario is all about.
