In my opinion, they're both perfectly fine. Although I play Mario's games, as they are less intense than Metroid and Legend of Zelda. For me, I don't like intense. Kinda scary...

Personally Link's style and games are more appealing to me. Platformers never really were my thing. I like the traditional adventure, dungeon exploring, item collecting game that is LoZ.
