The Legend of Zelda series is action adventure.

Children of Mana
Summon Knight: Twin Age

If you want remakes/ports:

All the Final Fantasy ones. Chrono Trigger. Dragon Quest IV? I think it was.

Locks Quest (has a small RPG element to it)

Many people think it sucks because it has Disney characters. I love the series though and there is always more to do. If you like final fantasy I have a feeling you may like Kingdom hearts. The beginning is a bit slow, but aren't the beginnings to a lot of great things slow?
I've never played the final fantasy series myself but as a Kingdom hearts fan people are recommending it to me all the time. The chain of memories game was just remade recently so now is a great time to start, all the games are on PS2 and if you buy them used from gamestop they're not that much.

Before you completely turn down this option read some review. See what others besides me have to say.

If you want something to play on your DS, get the chain of memories that is for GBA. It's not the originaly Kingdom hearts playing style but it is great fun. The cards make the game more of a strategy game.

i would highly recommend chrono trigger its an old game first came out on super nintendo and they brought it back on ds it has one of the greatest story lines and gameplay of all time in my opinion favorite game since i was..5.. O.O
