Re: Guilty Gear XX Accent Core - 05-27-08

No, that instant kill stuff is taken off in tournaments and yea its a great fighting game, regardless what others say. Due to my brothers constant begging, I finally bought Accent Core a few months ago to satisfy our fighting urges; and I must say being the first guilty gear game I've ever played, its very strange, unique, fresh, and not to mention incredibly fun all at the same time. Very reminiscent with the Marvel vs. Capcom series, except it has amazing depth and better visuals. There is no story mode in this version so you wont know what the heck is going on or the character back stories, unless you played previous versions, but you don't need it to enjoy the game.

Oh as for the instant kills in tournaments; even if they did allow instant kills the action is so fast you barely have time to fight back, much less charge up for a instant kills. For the controllers, I found the classic controller worked better than the arcade stick, but thats just me (gamecube works well to). To bad theres no online mode, or I would rock you with Order Sol and Sol Badguy. :D

P.S. If you enjoyed this game, check out BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger for the PS3. Its from the same people behind the Guilty Gear series and It looks amazing.

Re: Guilty Gear XX Accent Core - 05-27-08

There are tournaments, but they are rare in the United States. This game is more popular in Japan. If you find one, Instant Kill will usually not be allowed, and even if it was a good player will capitalize and kill and individual who tries to use it before they get the chance. I've followed Guilty Gear since the first one came out on PS1 (which was not the refined masterpiece the game has since developed into; excluding Isuka).

Tournaments I've played in (for X and XX, not for XXAC) here in the United States usually have a buy-in, and the players are very skilled. Knowing how to combo (and combo well) is a must, so is knowing how to effectively use all the unique traits of the series (False/Roman Cancels, Counter Hits, Air Combos, etc.). A lot of good players spend time learning or creating combos with their character that can rack up some hefty damage if you leave yourself open just once. Basically, I'd prepare a lot before entering a tournament if it has an entry fee, otherwise go nuts. :D

And btw, that BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger looks beautiful. Although I must admit, I wish ArcSys would finish the GG Series (with Raven and The Man) before going on and creating a new series (even if the new series looks awesome).

Agree. Also wish that they would come out with one version of Guilty Gear with all the characters and modes in one neat package, but so far, all Ive seen is constant rehashing of the same game with a bit of new content. Guilty Gear: XX Accent Core+ anyone? I dont wanna have to look up all the character bios on wikipedia to get the story either. BTW whens Guilty Gear 3 coming out?

Re: Guilty Gear XX Accent Core - 05-28-08

Well, Guilty Gear: Isuka was Guilty Gear 3 technically speaking (even though the game was terrible). BUT, there still has been no appearance of The Man or Raven yet, which are two huge characters that have been hinted at for quite some time. But I will agree that it would be nice to see them make one that completes the series and contains all characters (even if they aren't all involved in story mode, which they shouldn't be since Justice is technically dead, as are a few others). It would also be nice if they would leave the "online competition" feature as an option when they release in the United States, as opposed to taking it out like they did with Guilty Gear XX (which was online capable in Japan). Oh well, maybe they'll get things right with this new game. And I'm sure the fighting system will be virtually the same; I mean I hate to say it, but there is quite a striking resemblance in the main characters already (Ragna - Sol; Jin - Ky; Iron - Potemkin).
