Can I run away while fishing for a shiny water Pokemon? - 01-20-09

I'm looking for a Golden Magikarp in Pokemon Pearl. There are many places with a 100% chance of finding Megikarp using an old rod so my plan is to fish as many as Magikarp I could until I find that golden one I want. But to save time, I will run away first thing the game allow me to input my battle command if the Megikarp isn't shiny. Will this work? Do I need to faint each one to be counted as 1 battle toward that 1/8192 odds? I don't want to go on doing this for like 10,000 times just to find out later that it isn't the right way. I need to know the rule first. Or can I just do the normal Pokeredar chaining until I find a shiny land Pokemon then reset the game and go fishing? Will the odds reset with the game? I read from youtube that in Emerald, you can reset the game after an encounter with one kind of shiny Pokemon and after the game restart you can choose which other kind of shiny you want coz' the shiny finding odds in Emerald is very accurate & is saved with the game.

What I can tell you, is that even if you've fought 8191 pokemon, your odds of finding a shiny are still 1/8192. As for the pokeradar trick thing, I don't even know how it works.

In emerald there is a trick for shinies but if your looking for water pokemon, the pokeradar way does not work since you cant use it in water to find karps.

Mathematically, using Pokeredar to boost the probability of any shinies to appear then use that probability in water to get one easier should work.

Thanks everyone. At least now I know I can run away. I do believe in probability. This theory does work for my Pokemon breeding, everstone Ditto did give me correct nature of pokemon about 50% of the time like in most FAQS said. Of course, it has to base on enough samples like 10 eggs or above to be true. Like if I just hatched 2 eggs and found out that the Pokemon I got isn't the nature I need both, it just mean that 8 eggs from now I will have about 4-5 right natures and 3 more wrongs. Those 4-5 ones I want might end up even be the last 4-5 ones. So if I'm not that unlucky, hopefully, I'll catch one golden Magikarp. In the end this 1/8192 has to be made up by a computer program with random function that's calculatable and so predictable. There must be some counter in this program that increase or decrease the odds of the finding shinies. I wonder whether there is one for each pokemon specie or it's a master counter for all Pokemon. Like no matter what Pokemon I found if I encounter a lot of them a lot of time enough, one of them will be shiny. If that's the case, I might end up fishing for Magikarp for years never saw any Bidoof & just when I'm about to find a red Gyarados Megikarp as I deserve, I saw a Bidoof and it took that Megikarp fishing odd and become a shiny just like that or I will never know and could never really explain it. Maybe it just that the more I only see a Megikarp, the better chance I found a shiny one around the 8192th fishing.
