It's part of the freaking game! This is absolutely ridiculous, and it happens with several games (i.e. Mario Kart and snaking, Mario Strikers/Brawl and spamming, Brawl and items). If the developers put in things that could help you when playing against other people, then it should be perfectly fine to use them, because they're part of the game. This obsession is just pointless. In my honest opinion, "Standard Rules" should simply be no hacked Pokémon and no D/Cing. That's IT.

Feel free to flame me or give me negative karma, but that's my opinion on why Pokémon isn't very interesting anymore.
I'll tell you why. Ubers overpower the game. If people were allowed to use them in competitive play, you'd be required to play with Ubers just to win a match.

Nobody wants that.

Also, every other thing you complain about falls under one category: spamming. Believe it or not, spamming is not a strategy.

Learn how to play the game and you won't have to use spam tactics to win.

I'll tell you something. Ubers and spamming are both part of the game. This entire Pokémon community fails to realize that. It's the way the developers wanted it to be played. But everybody wanted to make up their own •••••••• rules so that they can actually win against someone who plays the game the way it's supposed to be. Matter of fact, none of that is spamming. Nothing is being abused in the game if Ubers, OHKO moves, etc. are used. The way I explained it IS how to play the game. The crap everyone else uses is just so other people can win. It's ridiculous.

Trying my best not to get bored here. Will post occasionally.

re: Papersak

Hi,

The motion regarding the so called 'luck-based items' lies in the facts of how they function in a battle.

While having them always work at 10% chance is nothing wrong, however in reality, due to the mechanics of the game, 10% of the incidences they WILL activate 100% of the times.

It sounds a little confusing but there is a significant difference. That's why in wifi battles, you see items like Quick Claw, activating 2, 3 turns in a row once every so often. Whereas in reality those chances are slim to none.

The way I see it, you're just trying to defend your only chance at winning.

I can see the legitimacy of that argument, I have to say I think those who do competitive battling and are good at it work well around these rules so it's obviously no problem for them. Whereas, when all these rules come into play, beginners and those who don't delve deep into the game's mechanics are left out. Pokemon's become extremely competitive now...people who wanted to simply train and battle will get wiped out without use of ubers versus someone with a lot of experience. That's why I'm backing that argument. Catch my drift?

Sure, if they don't feel like getting any better at the game. It takes practice with competitive pokes to gain skill. Ubers are on a wholly different level than OU/BL/UU. Using them against an experienced player helps even the field, yes, but it also means you're avoiding learning anything about how the game is played without them.

Re: Standard Rules - Get to know them' - 06-30-08

Not everyone cares for pokemon enough to learn those concepts. Pokemon has become so awfully predictable with the introduction of mass competitive play (wifi, in other words) and time consuming, with all these EV's, IV's, STANDARD MOVESETS, TIERS, it's all planned out, there's no originality. It's only how you use them combined with a little bit of luck. And since sites like Smogon have come out they put their full weight behind competitive battling, so any trainer that wants a simple battle can scarcely find one without battling an EV/IV training expert. Standard rules make things too...well, STANDARD. That's boring, and it's all the same stuff, the more clauses and rules you tack onto it.

So stop whining about competitive play and keep your "simple" ideals out of it. If you don't want to play competitively, fine. I don't care. If you do, however - cope with the rules. They're there for a reason.

They're there because you, who are probably a pretty hardcore competitive battler, and others like you made them. We're not whining. Quite frankly, you're starting to •••• me off and probably a good few others who agree with me...for SHOVING YOUR RULES DOWN THE THROATS OF ANYONE WHO WANTS TO BATTLE. It's gotta be competitive, or else it isn't a battle, am I right?
