Feraligatr is a good Pokémon to use against the last Gym. Ice Fang. Bear in mind the other 2 struggle and so do a lot of the in-game Pokémon.

That's your shaywin username. Anyway, Feraligatr would be good. But I'm starting with Typhlosion. And personnaly, I think 'phlosion is the best of the three. I could try wifi though.

I picked Tphlosion because he is so smexy ^O^ and when oak let me pick a starter I picked blastiose because he is also smexy ^O^ then I got charmander and bulbasaur in the GTS ^O^ so now.....I have smexy starters ^O^

I don't get what's so "smexy" about them.

Don't catch heaps of weak pokemon and never use them.

Just do what I did and get a starter (I got WINdiquil) and catch a pidgey right at the start.
Should get you through the game until after goldenrod city.

Catch the sudowoodo at that point because it is beast and at good level.

Maybe catch a paras in ilex forest for cut and rock smash.

At olivine city catch another pokemon for surfing and fighting.

According to this formula you should have:
Fire (cyndaquil) or grass or water
Flying
Rock
Water (or grass if you have totodile)
probably an electric
and a filler.
