I ordered it!! (team advice?)

I ordered HeartGold off ebay!
Anyway, I think I got the basics set up:
Name: Cooper
Starter: Cyndaquil (timid nature)
Rival: Gio jr.

I'm thinking of having an ampharos and a crobat. Maybe something like this:

Ampharos @ quick claw:
Modest nature
Thunderbolt
Hidden Power (water / ice)
Magnet Rise
Signal Beam

Crobat, no item
Adamant Nature
Cross Poison
Aerial Ace
Steel wing
Shadowball

Any suggestions for other team members?

And, yes. The name does come from Sly Cooper. :P

Pretty much any team can beat the game, no need to ask for one.

TRUST ME when you first start the game you are going to be soooo weak (it seems you get less exp from wild pokemon in this game then in D/P/Plat.) So you may have to grind, and also you REALLY don't need to think about your wifi team at this point in the game but when you get up to Red be prepared....he's hard.....very VERY hard O_O

I never said anything about a wifi team. Quick Claw is a banned item on wifi anyway.

Why shouldn't he be? He's YOUR rival after all.

I'd focus on using a team other than those you want until you beat the game. That way, they won't gain unwanted EVs due to your grinding. When your finish the game (or can get someone to trade you power items and know where the best places to EV train are), then start EV training.

If I want ampharos (for example) in my competitive battle team, I'll start from scratch with a flaafy. That's not a problem.

Rwarr?? O.o not really the way heart gold takes place is after you climb mt.sliver he will be standing there (you never meet him throughout the game) and he won't say anything when you talk to him he will just battle you and start with a lvl 88 pikachu (............O.o)
and when you beat him all he does is ".........!" like "did....I..just.....lose"
And yea what he said you don't need a real team till after you beat the game
