Alright I decided to make an ev training guide to help beginners to the whole Ev training "thing". Ev training was a little bit difficult for me when I first started out, but now I can ev train a pokemon in about 2-3 hours. This guide will explain how to ev train and some of my personal favorite spots to ev train.
Keep in mind I like to max out my pokemon's evs at a low level.
The Basics
Ev stands for effort value. Each and every pokemon has effort values. If you defeat a starley whichever pokemon you used to beat it will get 1 effort value in speed. There are effort values for each stat. Each stat can get up to 252 ev's to max out that stat and each pokemon can get 510 ev's. For every for ev's you get your pokemon gets one added point to that stat. So you could max out two stats and add one to another stat.
Terms.
Have you heard someone say "I am gonna use my special attack sweeper." or "haha this is my wall." and wanted to know what the heck they were? This section will explain what each is.
Sweeper- A pokemon whose speed stat is naturally high but by ev training it makes it even faster. There are two devisions of sweepers special sweepers and physical sweepers.
Special Sweeper - A pokemon who is both fast and has a high special attack stat. Ev's are usually spread like this 252 speed 252 special attack and 4 hp.
Physical Sweeper - A pokemon who is both fast and has a high attack stat. Ev's are usually spread like this 252 speed 252 attack and 4 hp.
Wall - A pokemon who has high special defense and high defense. Ev's are usually spread like this 252 special defense 252 defense 4 hp.
Hazer - A pokemon that uses haze to prevent stat changes.
There are some others but these are the ones i encounter the most.
How Do I start?
The first thing you need to begin ev training is a pokemon of course!! But how do you decide which pokemon to use and what nature and so on. It can get a little overwhelming at times but it is worth it. So I'll start with natures.
Natures
There are 25 natures most of which do something different. Some nature keeps all stats neutral, while others add to a specific stat and lower another stat.
Here is a list of all the natures and what they do.
Adamant- Raises attack lowers special attack.
Bashful- Neutral.
Bold- Raises defense lowers attack.
Brave - Raises attack lowers speed.
Calm - Raises special defense lowers attack.
Careful – Raises special defense lowers special attack.
Docile – Neutral.
Gentle – Raises special defense lowers defense.
Hardy – Neutral.
Hasty – Raises speed lowers defense.
Impish- Raises defense lowers special attack.
Jolly – Raises speed lowers special attack.
Lax – Raises defense lowers special defense
Lonely – Raises attack lowers defense
Mild – Raises special attack lowers defense.
Modest – Raises special attack lowers attack.
Naïve – Raises speed lowers special defense
Naughty – Raises attack lowers special defense.
Quiet – Raises special attack lowers speed.
Quirky – Neutral.
Rash – Raises special attack lowers special defense.
Relaxed – Raises defense lowers speed.
Sassy – Raises special defense lowers speed.
Serious – Neutral.
Timid – Raises speed lowers attack.
What nature is right for you? It all depends on what you are using the pokemon for.
Starting the Training.
It is always best to breed the pokemon you want so it is at a lower level. After I get the proper pokemon I usually put it into the daycare until it reaches level 10. Then i remove it and give it pokerus. (if you need pokerus tell me and i will give you a pokemon with pokerus) Pokerus doubles the amount of evs a pokemon gets. So if you battle a Starley and your pokemon has pokerus it gains 2 effort values (2 evs) instead of one. If you want to make ev training to go even faster get a macho brace. (can be obtained from showing all three forms of Burmy to boy in Pastoria city or you can migrate it from r/s/e) The macho brace also doubles the amount of evs you get. So if you battle a Starley now you will get 4 evs instead of one as long as your pokemon has both pokerus and the macho brace.
**Remember only 252 ev's are needed to max out a stat and each pokemon can only have 510 evs**
After your pokemon loses pokerus it still obtains double the amount of evs.
Here are some of my personal favorite spots to Ev train.
For Speed - Go to route 205 use vs. seeker to battle trainer with all magikarp. He has 6 magikarp and each magikarp has 1 speed ev. With pokerus and macho belt you can get a total of 24 speed ev's from one battle with that fisherman.
For Attack- Go to the bottem of the bicycle trail and battle the lady with the two shinx each shinx has 1 attack ev. With pokerus and macho brace you can get a total of 8 attack ev's in one battle with her.
For hp - Go onto any route with bibarel and use pokerader to keep up that battleing with the bibarel they each have 2 hp evs. With pokerus and macho brace you can get 8 hp ev's per bibarel defeated.
Defense- Any cave with geodudes. Each geodude give out 1 defense ev. So with pokerus and macho brace you can 4 defense ev's per geodude defeated.
Special attack - I usually go to the old Chateau and battle gastly each of them have 1 special attack ev. With pokerus and macho brace you can get 4 ev's per gastly.
Special defense - Surf on route 223 and battle the tentacruel. Tentacruel has 2 special defense evs. With pokerus and a macho brace you can get a total of 8 special defense ev's per tentacruel.
LAST MINUTE THINGS
- Pokmeon in daycare will not obtain any evs each time they level up.
- Once you max out your evs you no longer need to battle specific pokemon.
- Keep count of your evs using the poketech counter app and on a sticky note or some other kind of paper.
-Go to Sunyshore city, go to the market where you get the seals, talk to the lady at the counter facing to the right. If she gives you the effort ribbon then your pokemons evs are maxed out.
- Don't lose track of your ev's obtained.
- Be smart when you need to spread your evs.
- If you need pokerus contact me I will give it to you.
- Have fun!
Thank you for reading my guide to ev training. I hoped this helped!
