Yes, exactly that. Chunsoft is also responsible for Shiren the Wanderer.

Yep. It's actually not too bad.

I've never played Shiren, but to get rescued, you connect to the Nintendo WFC and send out your SOS Mail (either to "friends" or "anyone"). Other people have the ability to connect to the WFC and get a small list of jobs, accept some, complete the missions, then send "A-OK" mails back. Then a nice person would send a Thank-You mail back.
