You're MenceMeat -A Hyper Offensive RMT - 10-15-09

-TheDude (now known as rhadfi) and I decided to have a friendly competition to see who can write the best RMT. I'll put a poll up and once you've rated both teams, we ask that you vote for which one you feel was better and post your reasoning. Voting should be based on team creativity, RMT creativity, and team effectiveness.

Thanks!

The team will be in the following posts

You're MenceMeat -A Hyper Offensive RMT

|||||

Introduction

Way back when, or actually the beginning the this summer, I joined a clan off Friendcodes called The Storm. The leader Aflora decided that if I was to be in his clan, I had to have a proper team and the skills to back it up. Together we began to build a team which happens to be before you today. It's served me three long months and it's been brilliant; I've had my best wins with this team (1-0 vs. G3n's uber team), I've considered it my best team since recently and I've hit leaderboard three times with this team. The thing I like best about this team is the fact that it breaks all the boundaries I've set for myself in team building ever since. I did not go for two resistances for every type (Hell, I didn't even go for two resistances to every weakness...The horror!) and I didn't go for the obvious in-your-face synergy that I've found to be...unsophisticated. Now I'm going to retire this team because it has absolutely no way of dealing with Scarf Latias and any changes really damage the synergy, so I'm giving this team the final curtain and for your viewing pleasure.

General Strategy:

|
Machamp@Lum Berry
Ev's: 252 Hp / 160 Attack / 96 Special Defense
Nature: Adamant (
+Attack, -Special Attack)
-Substitute
-Dynamicpunch
-Payback
-Stone Edge

Comments and Suggestions:
Aflora was the type of team builder who always starts off with the lead (which I strongly disagree with, but whatever). He talked about Machamp lead and as the noob I was back then, I immdiately pulled up the Smogon page to see what it suggested. I looked at it a bit sceptically and we decided that it wasn't worth the space. We decided to ditch the Encore, and run what we call Lead Machamp + 3 Attacks, which I have found very satisfactory. Machamp immediately starts the grinding by pretty much annihilated any Sleep or SR lead because they give me the free sub and then the ability to spam Dynamicpunch's.

|
Jirachi@Choice Scarf
Ev's: 80 Hp / 252 Attack / 178 Speed
Nature: Jolly (+Speed, -Special Attack)
-Iron Head
-Trick
-Thunder Wave
-U-Turn

Comments and Suggestions:

We decided on Choice Scarf Jirachi last, but I thought I'd adress it here because I'd rather have my offensive core last. Without Scarf Jirachi, I would have no chance at all against Scarf Flygon and to a lesser extent, Scarf Salamence. This is also my first of three lines of defense against Gyarados. I can get the Thunder Wave on Gyarados (and many others) and survive a +1 Earthquake with Life Orb with Hp to spare. I've gotten lots of suggestions to ditch Thunder Wave, but I absolutely will not because it's helped monumentously. As I stated before, Jirachi doesn't do much to help with the sweepers, but made sure I was not weak to Flygon who was quite popular before the time of Scarf Latias.

|
Latias@Life Orb
Ev's: 4 Hp / 252 Special Attack / 252 Speed
Nature: Timid (+Speed, -Attack)
-Draco Meteor
-Thunderbolt
-Surf
-Recover

Comments and Suggestions:
When Latias first came to OU I was very sceptical (as I am of all things). I really thought that Latias had no place in OU not because it was too good, but because it was too bad. Latias picks up the grinding where Machamp left it behind. It may not be able to touch Blissey or Snorlax but it can put a huge dent in anything else with it's perfect coverage. Machamp and Latias together form the first core of the team and their only job is to make holes for the final clean up. Latias also gives me some protection from Mixape, who was still prominent at this time.

|
Salamence@Life Orb
Ev's: 84 Attack / 210 Special Attack / 216 Speed
Nature: Rash (+Special Attack, -Special Defense)
-Draco Meteor
-Fire Blast
-Outrage
-Earthquake

Comments and Suggestions:
Mixmence is the second core all on it's own. Most walls are not mixed so this thing really has free reign to shut down most walls to the extent that Breloom and Suicune can pick up the kills later. I don't even have to explain this set since it's probably the most popular Salamence set today but I will explain what it does in terms of covering threats. This is my best shot to beat Lucario. It outspeeds Max Speed Lucario so I can't get Ice Punch'd and +1 Extremespeed really doesn't do a threatening amount. With Draco Meteor and Fire Blast, it clears checks to Breloom and with Earthquake and Outrage to clear Special walls for Suicune.

|
Breloom@Toxic Orb
Ev's: 48 Hp / 252 Attack / 208 Speed
Nature: Adamant (+Attack, -Special Attack)
-Seed Bomb
-Facade
-Sword Dance
-Mach Punch

Comments and Suggestions:
Breloom is part one of two of the 'clean up crew.' After Latias, Machamp and Salamence have finished ripping holes in my opponents team, Breloom gets in there and sweeps the remnants. I'm having a bit of trouble picking an item, Life Orb gets me huge power and after a Sword Dance, Breloom hits an attack stat of 1024 which is enormous. On the other hand, Toxic Orb gives me the ability to sweep longer and use Facade which has great power behind it. Breloom is my second line of defense against Gyarados and I suppose Machamp as well. Without a Sword Dance boost, Breloom can pick off things like Salamence and Gyarados at about 20% health left, giving me free Toxic Orb activation. After a Sword Dance, it can hit Scizor for 50% damage with Mach Punch and hit it before Bullet Punch. Just in general a really great set that never sees it's potential put to best use.

|
Suicune@Life Orb
Ev's: 4 Hp / 252 Special Attack / 252 Speed
Nature: Timid (
+Speed, -Attack)
-Surf
-Calm Mind
-Ice Beam
-Hidden Power [Electric]

Comments and Suggestions:
Many people scoff at me when they see Life Orb Suicune. They say "Lol noob, what a waste of Suicune's bulk", but I say this is the best Suicune set. Unlike other Suicune's, this one has the ability to actually do damage to other water types. I don't really need to explain how the set works but I'll explain what it does in my name. Suicune is part two of two of the 'clean up crew.' After Latias, Machamp and Salamence have finished ripping holes in my opponents team, Suicune gets in there to sweep the remmnants. If Blissey shows its fugly face, I'll just switch to Breloom who can easily take the Thunder Wave while it already had Toxic up and scare Blissey off for the free Sword Dance. Suicune can easily take on Scizor, cleanly OHKO'ing Scizor with +1 Surf without Stealth Rocks. She can survive a +1 Life Orb Earthquake Gyarados and OHKO with the HP [Electric].

Re: You're MenceMeat -A Hyper Offensive RMT - 10-15-09

Team Building Process:

I think I explained most of the team building in the main thread, but I want to go the full mile for this team. As previously stated, Aflora was the team builder who always started with the lead and I explained in the Machamp description why we picked Machamp so...

We knew this team would be dedicated to grinding, so we wanted an offensive partner for Machamp. Latias came to mind. I really didn't like Latias but for the sake of listening I held my complaints till after we had done some testing.

At this point I could see we needed a steel. At this point we hadn't really decided what steel we needed so we thought of more wall breakers. Aflora talked about the new Mixmence set which was about to revolutionize the metagame. I agreed quickly to Salamence because I saw immediately the potential of a mixed wall breaker in the new metagame. Ok fine, the real reason was that I thought Draco Meteor looked cool.

At this point, we decided that we had enough grinders and we needed some sweepers. Aflora talked about Breloom which I immediately contested because I strongly believed at that time that any Breloom was a cheap Breloom. How wrong was I? Sword Dance Breloom probably sweeps almost half of the time without a problem. It also gave us a status absorber.

I brought up the fact that Breloom could be walled by several Phsyical wall and we needed a Special sweeper. Suicune came up and I had recently used the SubCM set to great success. However, Aflora decided we needed the Life Orb set if we were going for an offensive team and I really had no problem with that.

It was easy to see that the synergy was already set but certain Pokemon gave us huge trouble. Choice Scarf Flygon and to a lesser extent, Scarf Salamence could completely sweep us given the right conditions. We also had a large Dragon weakness that could only be resisted by Steels. Jirachi was the fastest Steel on our roster and we gave it enough ev's to specifically outspeed Scarf Flygon and Salamence.

Aaaand there's the team!

Re: You're MenceMeat -A Hyper Offensive RMT - 10-15-09

Threat List:

  • Green means they are not a problem for me.
  • Orange means they can cause a bit of trouble.
  • Red means they are very difficult to take down.

(Borrowed from UnHoly Calamity

Offensive Threat List

Azelf: Jirachi has Iron Head and U-Turn, Machamp can usually get a Payback off.

Breloom: Jirachi has lots of fun against this thing along with Salamence. Suicune outspeeds and ko's with Ice Beam.

Dragonite: Very managable. Salamence and Suicune outspeed and ko. I can always spam Iron Head with Jirachi

Dugtrio: A bit of a problem because it normally gets a free kill on whatever it traps. After that it becomes fairly predictable.

Empoleon: Latias runs all over this thing. If Latias and Salamence are gone, it could be a problem.

Flygon: Suicune can live any attack and OHKO. Jirachi can outspeed and Iron Head spam. Machamp gives it trouble as well.

Gengar: Obviously a threat to any team. Jirachi gives it huge trouble as well as Salamence if it doens't have Hidden Power [Ice]

Gyarados: Breloom walls, Salamence and Suicune handle this nicely. Jirachi can Thunder Wave.

Heatran: So predictable. I have Suicune and Latias for this. Specs means I lose Machamp off the bat.

Infernape: Latias kills this so bad. Jirachi can Thunder Wave

Jirachi: Suprisingly tough to beat. I have to play smart around it if it's seen my Jirachi already.

Jolteon: Salamence and Latias can come in without much trouble as well as Breloom.

Kingdra: Very difficult to deal with. My best shot is to lure it into Outrage and Thunder Wave it then wear it down.

Latias: This one makes me tear up.

Lucario: Salamence totally owns it. Suicune can get Surf it because they normally use Close Combat.

Salamence: Jirachi and Suicune have fun with this one.

Scizor: Not hard to deal with. Suicune and Breloom do a good chunk and Salamence owns.

Starmie: I suppose it can be trouble but I don't see it enough to know. Latias can generally deal with them.

Tyranitar: Jirachi owns this as well as Salamence. Breloom can pick off weaker ones.

Defensive Threat List:

Blissey: Machamp and Breloom own. Salamence if I'm desperate.

Celebi: Really anyone can deal with him

Cresselia: This thing is such a bish. Salamence and dent it and others can do smaller dents.

Forretress: Latias, Salamence and Suicune deal with it well. Leads are absolutely destroyed by Machamp.

Gliscor: Latias and Salamence do damage. Suicune annhiliates.

Suicune: My own Suicune sets up. Machamp, Salamence and Latias wear it down.

Swampert: Any special sweeper here deals with him and Breloom owns.

Tentacruel: My own Suicune sets up and generally everyone has a way to beat it.

Vaporeon: Pretty much the same deal with Tentacruel. I'd Trick it with Jirachi if possible.

Zapdos: Zapdos doesn't really give me any troubles, I have Salamence and Latias for this if not Machamp as well.
