This time, I'm trying to pull off an azelf sweep. Because 70% of them are leads and at least a decent chunk are psuedo leads, I thought that a nasty plot sweeper would be nice for a change of pace and a look back at the past. It's not very unique, but I just wanted to try it anyway. This team was made a while ago so I might be fuzzy with the details.
Heatran (M) @ Lum Berry
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 18 HP/240 Spd/252 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Earth Power
- Flamethrower
- Stealth Rock
- Dragon Pulse
My lead. It covers Azelf's weaknesses and sets up SR so the opponent doesn't go switch happy. I put lum berry on because I prefer simply countering earthquakes and earth powers. I don't like Roserade getting toxic spikes up either and smeargle also gives me less headaches that way. Speaking of smeargle, the speed EVs were just to out speed it. I understand that Roserade may get the sleep powder off the 2nd turn and pull off toxic spikes anyway, but this has only a 56.25% chance of occurring and bringing Roserade down to its sash is better than letting it get a free setup.
Vaporeon (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 SAtk
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Ice Beam
- Surf
- Wish
- Protect
My answer to most EQ carrying leads. It also helps scout the opponent and wish support is more than welcome to the team. Ice beam is the final move to help me cope with dragons.
Shaymin @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP/220 Spd/38 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Seed Flare
- Substitute
- Leech Seed
I know that this one has some major explaining to do. Basically I was just looking for a good grass type to help me cope with electric types amongst others. Shaymin can come in on Rotom-A(and Jolteon carrying shadow ball to an extent) and other ghosts more easily than Celebi. Really, all Shaymin was about is defensive type coverage and I almost gave up on this team trying to find a grass type that isn't Breloom (Breloom is too slow and fragile on the special side to be using its resistances) that would help me with coverage until I thought Shaymin. A typical Rotom-H rarely just fires off an overheat if it's scarfed and if it's not, substitute will take advantage of the spA drop on Rotom. Leech seed is a huge annoyance and hidden power fire hurts any Scizor that thinks he's smart by U-turning leech seed off among other steel types not named Heatran.
Azelf @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 34 HP/4 Def/220 Spd/252 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Psychic
- Nasty Plot
- Hidden Power [Fighting]
- Shadow Ball
The star of my team. This late game sweeper is very speedy and with access to nasty plot, can hurt even Blissey. I decided to use HP fighting and shadow ball over grass knot and hidden power fire because I prefer general coverage over target-specified coverage. He even has a little natural bulk to survive priority that isn't over powered.
Salamence (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 236 HP/64 Atk/92 Spd/116 SDef
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Dragon Claw
- Earthquake
- Roost
- Dragon Dance
I don't remember what I used this for exactly. I think it was to take a special attack while still posing a threat, but still it doesn't do for this team what the other 4 do. I think it helped me a few times. Maybe I need a different set or pokemon all together.
Lucario (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Close Combat
- Extremespeed
- Swords Dance
- Crunch
I was just thinking about replacing this with a rapid spinner like Starmie. this team is a little too defensive for Lucario (unless it's scarfed or something) to be quite honest.
