Hello there and Welcome.
I've been out of competitive battling for over 2 years now and I never had much luck at winning anyway, but I'd like to have another go and see what Generation 5 (Part 2) has thrown out there.
I'm interested in using a Rain team at the moment because I'm quite interested in using Tornadus-T, however I also want to run a quite defensive type team as well so I tried to incorporate both of those traits into this when I made it.
Any changes I make will be in red and bold
Politoed @ Leftovers
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 SAtk
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Toxic
- Perish Song
- Protect
This guy is obviously the star of the team due to his ability. He's pretty standard as the bulky set but I'm hoping I could use him late game to trap the last Pokémon in and use Perish Song giving me the win.
Dragonite @ Leftovers
Ability: Multiscale
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 HP
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Outrage
- Extremespeed
- Earthquake
I was thinking "What resists Grass moves" and I thought that I'd need a dragon type so here it is. Dragonite has never really been my favourite and I've never really used it, I always went for Salamence normally but I thought this time I might try him out. I wanted to keep it bulky so I threw Roost on him but I'm aware that it decreases his coverage a lot. Outrage is Outrage, simple. ExtremeSpeed is a reliable priority move and Earthquake was suggested to help me hit Steel Types such as Jirachi.
Ferrothorn @ Shed Shell
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SDef
Relaxed Nature
- Protect
- Stealth Rock
- Leech Seed
- Power Whip
I was never a fan of Forretress because of its x4 weakness to Fire and I know this guy has the same problem, however he slots in nicely as the rain does weaken fire type moves. He can also be a nice surprise if anyone else is running a rain team as he can help to take out Water/Ground types such as Gastrodon, Vaporeon and Rotom-W. I needed a Stealth Rocker on my team so he does the job nicely, but I don't know whether to use Spikes or not as Protect is much more appealing to me to be able to stall out Leech Seed damage. Power Whip is Standard of course but the 85% accuracy does slightly worry me for the reason that I said before - my luck is terrible!
I'm unsure as to which item to use as there is the possibility that it may get trapped in battle the loss of Leftovers recovery could do more harm than good.
Tornadus-Therian (M) @ Choice Specs / Life Orb
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 Atk
Timid Nature
- Hurricane
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power [Ground]
- U-turn
This is the guy I want to use. I've not been so much of a fan of the Kami trio to start with, but these new forms looks so much more badass than the others. I particularly like Tornadus because it's just Flying type. I don't really know why to be fair, I just do. Anyway, getting back on topic, Tornadus-T is a bit more speedy that Tornadus-I and I have always been a fan of speed. Hurricane is 100% accurate in the rain making it clearly a staple move. Seeing as I'm running Specs on it I need to use some special moves which is why I went for Focus Blast as it is useful for coverage and Superpower would be pants on a Specs set. I never knew it could use Heat Wave and it has the potential to be very useful, however, again there's the problem that the Rain causes and makes Fire moves 50% weaker.. Therefore I have the other option of using a Hidden Power. My current Tornadus is one from the Dream Radar which I had the fortunacy of getting as a Timid Nature. However its Hidden Power is rock which is not so useful.
REPLACED
Spoiler
Jirachi @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 224 Def / 252 HP / 32 Spd
Bold Nature
- Calm Mind
- Wish
- Thunder
- Water Pulse
I was thinking what to use in place of Espeon and Jirachi was mentioned and well I thought it would be a good idea seeing as I've had run-ins with Jirachi in the past. This is just the basic Wish/CM set and the two moves are to take advantage of the Rain as much as possible
I also had a thought that I may use this, it caught my eye while looking through Smogon. Only a maybe though
Spoiler
Gastrodon @ Leftovers
Ability: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 SDef / 252 HP / 4 SAtk
Sassy Nature
- Scald
- Earthquake
- Recover
- Toxic
I really wanted to use Jellicent as it's one of my favourite Pokémon, but that would have given me 3 Pokémon weak to Electric and no resistances to it. I was also thinking about using Rotom-W but I'm not all that sure if it's a good idea.
I wanted to take advantage of my theme again and go for something bulky. Here it is. When I first saw this Pokémon I thought "What the troll is that!?" but with the useful move in Recover and Storm Drain's buff it makes it an excellent addition. If this thing had Swampert's bulk then it'd be better but beggars can't be choosers and this is what I've got. Scald = Burn = WOO. Earthquake is there as I've not got so much Physical Power on the team and if up against Chansey or Blissey I either need Physical power or the run button. <Insert generic despise for them both>
Toxic is Poison but with Scald I'm not sure if it's worth it, maybe Stone Edge could be more prominent although scald doesn't have a 100% chance to Burn.
I just want some opinions before I attempt to make the team, seeing as I want to try to do it the legitimate way and not just create them with PokéSav or something saying I'm "testing"
Any feedback would be appreciated but we'll see. I've never been that great at making teams and I do want to get better and making and battling and this really is the only way.
Thanks in advance!
