Here is my team for an upcoming UU tourney being hosted by TNA (if you would like to join just stop by our chat box at http://tnaclan.synthasite.com or PM me. I've never done a fully UU team before so I could use a bit of help. So here's the team:
At a glance:
__________________________________________________ ___________
Dodrio @ Lum Berry
Jolly : Early Bird
252 SP, 248 HP, 8 AT
- Agility
- Drill Peck
- Taunt / Acupressure
- Baton Pass
This set lets Dodrio support my team with speed boosts. His first move, Agility, will raise its Speed, and it can then proceed to attack or pass these changes on to another member of my team. Next, he has Drill Peck which will allow him to hit the opponent as well as keeping Taunt from crippling him. For his third move, he has a choice between Taunt which keeps others from phazing him or Acupressure which can randomly increase another one of his stats, providing even more stat changes to pass along but I'm not sure which move I will run yet. Suggestions? His last move and theme of this set, Baton Pass, will pass any of his stat changes to another team member of my choosing. Early Bird is so that Dodrio can function as a sleep absorber.
Gastrodon @ Leftovers
Relaxed : Sticky Hold
212 HP, 44 DF, 252 SA
- Stockpile
- Recover
- Ice Beam
- Brine
The strategy behind this set is to get a few Stockpiles in and proceed to attempt a sweep. Recover is there when needed. Ice beam is simply there for added coverage. My last move, Brine, may seem kind of weird to you, but consider this, I'm going to get hit somewhat hard before stocking up, once I've got 2 or 3 Stockpiles, my HP should be near 50% or lower. And I'm not going to get damaged severely anytime soon, so Brine will be powered up for a while and I can actually attempt a sweep with this (it has a base power of 195 considering STAB and the double power boost).
Clefable @ Leftovers
Calm : Magic Guard
252 HP / 252 SD / 6 SA
- Wish
- Protect
- Toxic
- Flamethrower
This Clefable is similar to the Toxi-stalling WishBliss except for the UU environment. This set revolves around statusing your opponent with Toxic and then stalling. Wish and Protect gives me two turns of stalling rather than one, while providing some team support. Flamethrower will hit things that resist Toxic.
Aggron @ Leftovers
Adamant : Rock Head
252 HP, 252 AT, 4 SP
- Stealth Rock
- Thunder Wave
- Roar
- Earthquake / Stone Edge / Iron Head
With decent HP and great Defense, Aggron can effectively adds support to my team. His EV spread focuses on his HP and Attack, and, even without defensive Evs, he still reaches an impressive 396 Defense. Many resistances will allow him to switch in on a lot of physical sweepers and set up his first move, Stealth Rock. Next, Thunder Wave can be used to induce my opponent with status while Roar will enable him to rack up residual damage and phaze anything that tries to set up on him. Earthquake will give him decent coverage and let him hit Poison types, especially Toxicroak, hard. STAB Stone Edge which will hit most of what Earthquake doesn’t. STAB Iron Head has a chance to flinch my opponent and will hit Fighting types and the likes of Claydol and Solrock harder. I'm still undecided on what his last move will be.
Hitmonlee @ Choice Band / Life Orb (not sure which)
Jolly: Limber
252 AT, 236 SP, 20 HP
- Mach Punch
- Stone Edge / Rock Slide
- Earthquake
- Blaze Kick
With his good movepool and 508 Attack (with Band), Hitmonlee can become a threat for practically any Pokemon. Close Combat is his first attack for STAB and sheer power and will be my main form of inflicting damage. Next, he has Stone Edge, a somewhat inaccurate, but powerful move which provides good coverage when combined with Close Combat. I may go with Rock Slide over Stone Edge for the improved accuracy. His third attack, Earthquake, is used for its strength and coverage as it will allow him to hit Nidoking, Nidoqueen, and Toxicroak who otherwise wall me. Last, he has Blaze Kick which is to hit common Grass/Poison types.
Rotom @Choice Scarf
Timid : Leviate
252 SA,252 Speed,6 HP
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Thunderbolt
- Shadow Ball
- Sleep Talk
This set outspeeds Scarfchomp, most ScarfGars & Zelfs and it OHKO's them as well. I know that these arn't going to be used in UU, it's just to give you an example of how fast this little guy is. With Scarf and Timid nature Rotom only reaches a total of 289 Special Attack, but because his moves provide pretty good coverage, this isn't such a big deal since it can still kill the things it should kill. He has a variation of BoltBeam which provides excellent coverage. Shadow Ball is for STAB. Sleep Talk allows Rotom to absorb sleep and attack back. I may be using a different move (not a whole lot to choose from tho =/) instead of Sleep Talk because I already have a sleep absorber and in my experiences Sleep Talk sets don't work all that well.

12¾ out of 15. Most of them are good the way they are, some need tweaking, and as for one, I'm not sure if it's playing to it's strengths. Also, there are not a lot of resistances, so that can overall hurt the switching game as you're almost constantly taking damage.

Well, either way you'll have to choose between Acupressure or Agility. Taunt is a good option since I'm pretty sure in UU there are a lot of non-attacking sets, so I'd suggest that. Now, Agility is a for sure Speed boost, and will only help Hitmonlee really. Though, with Acupressure, if you get Sp.Def, you can pass it to Clefable or Gastrodon, same with Defense, Aggron, Cledable. Speed or attack, Lee, Sp.Atk, Speed, Rotum. And a legal way for Evasion. =P But either way, it depends on what you would rather have. Sure fire speed, or random, yet mostly useful stats.
Gastrodon @ Leftovers
Relaxed : Sticky Hold
212 HP, 44 DF, 252 SA
- Stockpile
- Recover
- Ice Beam
- Brine
The strategy behind this set is to get a few Stockpiles in and proceed to attempt a sweep. Recover is there when needed. Ice beam is simply there for added coverage. And I'm not going to get damaged severely anytime soon, so Brine will be powered up for a while and I can actually attempt a sweep with this (it has a base power of 195 considering STAB and the double power boost). Not sure if it was a typo, but Brine only doubles when your opponent's HP is less the half, so you could consider Surf instead. Also, in Platinum you can give it Earthpower over Ice Beam if you wanted. Either way, this looks okay the way it is.
EDIT: Does Storm Drain make you not receive damage from water attacks? Yeah, I should know this, but I'm not sure. But if it does, that would be good with the abundance of Water UU choices. Though I'm not sure if Thief or Trick is extremely common in UU though.
This is just fine the way it is. The only thing I'd suggest is T-Wave over Aggron so it can have more offensive capabilities, but that would defeat the purpose of what you're wanting to do, so that probably wouldn't be best.
My standard for Stone Edge/Rock Slide, is if it's a wall, Rock Slide, a sweeper, Stone Edge. I come to this mainly because if you don't have attack investment, you can't really K.O. stuff, and you'll just run out of PP. Though, you do have max attack, but the main reason this seems irksome to me is the fact that it only has one attacking move.
Overall, I'd say drop Roar for Earthquake. Double resistance, SR does their HP divided by 24>16>8>4>2. Now, since normally good opponents won't have more then one, two tops weak to SR, so Stealth Rock without Spike makes Roar not so good, only because most likely they're be doing more damage to you then you'll do to them. Also, EQ+S.Edge is a good move combo, that and Earthquake hits what resists Stealth Rock and S.Edge.
Hitmonlee @ Choice Band / Life Orb (not sure which)
Jolly: Limber
252 AT, 236 SP, 20 HP
- Mach Punch
- Stone Edge / Rock Slide
- Earthquake
- Blaze Kick
With his good movepool and 508 Attack (with Band), Hitmonlee can become a threat for practically any Pokemon. His third attack, Earthquake, is used for its strength and coverage as it will allow him to hit Nidoking, Nidoqueen, and Toxicroak who otherwise wall me. Last, he has Blaze Kick which is to hit common Grass/Poison types. In this, HP and Speed are the most important stats, because they directly result into happenings, like Substitute, Leftovers, and who goes first. So in that, Speed is probably the most important. Take twenty EVs from attack into speed. Also, since Hitmonlee resists what Dodrio's weak too, so you should be able to pass to it, so with that, that's another reason to consider Life Orb since you'll be getting a speed pass perhaps. Mach Punch is a good choice, but if you're sure you're going to pass speed to it, you can consider Close Combat.
This is pretty much really good. While I can see how good Sleep Talk could be, the other options are Will-O-Wisp, or Trick. With Choice Scarf, you could switch to Specs and use Trick, but even with Scarf, Trick could ruin something non-offensive. That would be the main reason WoW wouldn't be that great. So really, either Sleep Talk, or Trick. Also, you can consider Discharge for the heck of it for the chance to Paralyze, though you do have T.Wave.

If you didn't want Aggron to be offensive, then I could suggest Bastiodon, mainly because it has good Sp.Def also, and Metal Burst. Though since Aggron is offensive, there's no real need now.

I'd presume that it would be in place of Rotom. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
