It's never been tried like this before; at least think about the reason why it won't work, provide with me some examples, show me the flaws in my plan; let's do this serious discussion style.
I want to see this flawless logic.

F.C. also wouldn't be the best place to have serious discussions, not that there aren't intelligent mature people here, but the website is focused for kids wanting to play on Nintendo WFC, not discuss serious topics (meaning that the forum might not even gain enough hype to stay alive, let alone prosper). Even though I would enjoy serious discussions to go on in F.C., the work put into it would be too much for just a little forum that might not even work out anyway. I sadly disapprove.

You solved your own problem in your own post.
There wouldn't be many requests to join the Serious Discussion forum; so why would we need more staff? I believe we'll have... about 4 people a week attempting to join it, and I do believe that the forums will prosper, because why would some one sign up if they weren't going to be a dedicated poster?

Really caught me there xD. I was looking for ways possible for this to work well and I just can never think things through enough until people explain it to me.
I'm sure many people would sign up just to be a part of this exclusive new group of mature people, it could kind of be like "the popular people" to kids. And usually, as humans, we have the urge to join things that we can't see or be a part of (If your idea includes an exclusion of all people from seeing the forums if they aren't in the group), also because the "SeriousMods" would have the power to admit people to the group (which is a terrible idea IMO, if all the people able to post in the forum had that ability(might have read that wrong)) which could be abused if they get upset, for any reason, at the Fc community or can't control the urge to do bad.
The more staff problem that was in my last post was for if the forum did prosper. Like active posters, many people trying to get admittance through the "Proving Grounds", and immature people getting through the, shall I call it, "filter".
I also still believe Fc is not the place for Serious Discussions, the amount of children to adults is too high for a large amount of serious discussions to happen, and if there is not a large amount of serious discussions then why is there a need for the forum at all? I'm sure a social group could suffice if anything.

You did read it wrong, just to clarify my "SeriousMods" idea. No biggy, it's cleared up now.
With good mods, I doubt immature people could pass through the filter; by good mods I mean people like R1kk1. (Not many staff members like that anymore. I mean the kind that can actually hold their own in arguments.)
Besides, if one tadpole does get through the net, it can be easily killed.
Moving on to the main idea of your last paragraph.. The fact that you generalize "children" as immature is saddening. There are plenty of children out there who are at par with adults. For instance, I just recently turned 16. I believe I'm on the same intellectual level as any older person.
That, and I've lost debates against 13 year olds before. An example would be Gen, such a young person who is VERY good in the Serious Discussion environment.
I'm sure FC is a fine place for Serious Discussion. Saying it's not is just a result of the fact that F&Gs has this site on a leash.(No offense, but it's how I see it.)
I've seen people on Friendcodes unofficial chat who would serve greatly as Serious Discussion participants... I wonder why they're active on the chat more than the forums, though. Hm.

Re: Best Suggestion You've Read [Serious Discussion] -

I would love to see a serious discussions section on Friendcodes. The narrow-minded attitude that Friendcodes should be a place for gaming alone saddens me greatly. And I think that, given the right amount of attention and moderation, it could do well. I've seen plenty of gaming-based, kid-dominated sites with great serious discussion areas, so I pretty much disagree with the whole idea that it couldn't work here due to the amount of children that frequent the site.
The Serious Discussions group, like every single other social group out there, died due to the lack of publicity the social group feature recieves. If it were made into a forum I'm sure it would recieve more interest.
I can definitely see a problem with an "elitist" group forming, but suprisingly that hasn't really happened as far as I can see with FCU, so it could maybe work here too. Who knows.

To that children being immature thing, sorry about that. Right after typing that I was going to go back and edit it but found another fault elsewhere and it completely left my mind. It was also very hypocritical of me, being only a child myself.
I agree with the "F&Gs has this site on a leash." Mostly because it is a very active forum and I base most of my opinions on the people of the site from it , which is something I and others shouldn't do.
Extremely glad to have had you tell me the solutions you have to all the supposed "problems" I have found. Also thanks for the time of actually writing back lengthy and well thought out responses, not many people do.
By now I support of this suggestion and I do believe that Fc should at least try out a Serious Discussions forum. It could certainly benefit the entire website :0.

Thanks for the support! See, I'm glad we could argue maturely about this! This is one reason added to the hypothetical thesis statement as to why we should have a Serious Discussion forum!
This thread within itself is like a Serious Discussion topic!
As for the rest, I forgive you for your mistakes, and am glad that you support now. I agree that we should at LEAST try this idea for a bit.
Now we just need to persuade Snakepit to be a supporter..

*Stands up and starts clapping*
Brilliant.
If only people who can handle serious discussion are allowed entry in the board, then what problems could there be?
Support. We need intellectual discussions, even on a gaming related site.

What do you know, Sky was right. One of the best suggestions I've seen in awhile.
Personally, a serious discussion thread would be a nice addition. I agree with all of the points mentioned, the only thing is the amount of good moderators. I do see new trial mods and whatnot, but that's off topic. F&G has been one of the focal points for members for far too long, not many of the people who frequent F&G play games as much as people who simply stay idle or spend their time here talking in groups. I support, it gives me a reason to show my more serious side.

I do love the idea, I even suggested something extremely similar this this last summer. A good discussion on, the war in Afghanistan for example, is something I rather enjoy. I especially like the idea as something to counter and balance F&G.
But the issue is that it was attempted back in 2007, and just blew up in everyones faces. Hard. It's pretty frustrating for the admins, as Dani once put it, to be "repeatedly hammering our hands and missing the nail"
There's a few issues with the idea, I'll briefly mention some of the more obvious ones now.
One, being that people will be sour if they're not allowed in, or kicked out of, the serious discussions area. People will see it like being slapped in the face and being called immature, and take offense to it. The last thing we need is the feedback section filling up with threads like " FC staff are favoritism elitists", "Snakepit is an idiot" "R1kk1 r shud be fired k lulululul". We don't want to divide up the members into different groups, it gets messy and I can see the people with access to it acting like they're above everyone else.
Another issue is the amount of work involved. With your idea, we need to create a few new usergroups, new forums, an application process, and after it's all set up, we have to monitor it constantly so that it doesn't inevitably get out of hand. Seems like hours of work for something that will probably fall flat on it's rear after about a week.
