Serious Discussion Suggestion

Okay, most of the people who read this probably won't know me, so, I'll start off with a brief introduction.

I'm Sky, others call me Cosmick or Prometheus.(Not to be confused with the Conduit's Prometheus. I got the name from a book called Anthem.)

I've been a member here for a while, my activity tends to run like an economical graph. It booms and busts. When it's booming, it's a time to prosper, and the bust.. well, it's vice-versa. I'm one of the more "srs" members here, as I've been called, and I'm tired of not being able to discuss my "srs" views in a public forum, as a group, with other "srs" people of FC.

I've recognized that the Fun and Games forum now has topic moderation. The topic has to be approved before it appears on the list. This is an amazing idea, but, why waste SUCH GREAT innovation on a board that is for "general nonsense?"

That is where my idea comes in; why not open up a public Serious Discussion section, but moderate topics just like you would the posts at the Fun and Games forums.

Sure, sure, I know what you staff members are thinking; "It's not the topic starters that kill Serious Discussion; it's the posters."

Well, here is my innovative idea:

Set up a moderated usergroup, and give the members of that group the rights to post in the Serious Discussion forums. Anyone can request to be in this group; but only people who have been approved can actually join.

"But, Sky, that's not fair to the other members!"

Why not?

"What if there is a newer member that comes around, and likes Serious Discussion a lot? How will he gain access to this Promised Land of a forum?"

I foresaw this question, fine sir. That's where another, sub-forum section comes in.

The "Proving Grounds."

FC mods and possibly "SeriousMods" are the only ones who can post topics in this section; be it related to Politics or Religion or anything else that is labeled as serious. People who want to join the Serious Discussion forum can "test drive" it here, and prove themselves worthy of joining the Serious Discussion usergroup.

"But Sky, Politics? Religion? Those are very touchy subjects!"

I know they are. They're also very serious subjects, and I'm sure some members of FC are interested in conversation on such subjects. Not in an aggressive or insulting manner, but in an intelligent way.


Please Friendcodes, here me out. I'm sure this site would benefit from such discussion.

I would definitely like to see this addition to FriendCodes. The maturity level of these forums is what drove me away for months, now I'm back (sorta).

I need not go further on the rep of FC (If anyone DARES ask "wat" it either proves my point or you're a fail troll at taking such easy bait. Real trolls take challenges, not obvious bait). Everyone that will be in favor of a Serious Discussion board will know this rep, and perhaps such a board can repair or help it.

The fact you actually care is a very, very, very big breakthrough for the youngsters here at FC.

You actually just gave me hope for FC's future. I thank you, a whole, whole, whole lot. I'm being serious here too; and I'm almost never serious when it comes to me talking to other people I've never met.

This would be a great idea, maybe even a sub-forum for something like debates?
Of course there may be flaming but your idea about a moderated user group sounds okay.

You are talking about religion, politics etc. but if the users that are allowed to access that forum are mature then they should very well be able to handle those matters quite well.

I would certainly like a Serious Discussions forum. The thing troubling me in your suggestion is the amount of work needed to be put in to this forum. There would most likely need to be more moderators and a lot more work would have to be done to make sure the topics don't go awry and the whole forum turns into chaos. F.C. also wouldn't be the best place to have serious discussions, not that there aren't intelligent mature people here, but the website is focused for kids wanting to play on Nintendo WFC, not discuss serious topics (meaning that the forum might not even gain enough hype to stay alive, let alone prosper). Even though I would enjoy serious discussions to go on in F.C., the work put into it would be too much for just a little forum that might not even work out anyway. I sadly disapprove.

As much as I would love the idea of a Serious Discussions board, it just won't work here. It's been tried before, and just does not work out.
