From now on I have advised our moderating staff to make sure they only infract for swearing in the following cases;
- The member is deliberately evading swear censors
- The member is swearing without evading censors but in a context that is attacking/insulting/flaming other members in the thread (also applicable to profiles, social groups, hubs and private messages that are reported*)
This is non-negotiable, but should clarify some misunderstandings in future about what should and shouldn't be infracted in regards to swearing.
Edit:
We still do not allow you to evade a censor simply because you are mad, or any other reason. There seems to be some confusion here - swear words are still not allowed to be visible. This announcement is mostly for the benefit of those who receive infractions for words in their posts being censored but not meant to offend anyone. Such as "I'm having a •••• day".
That's why the censor system is in place. If we were to infract everyone and edit posts for every single post containing a censored word, we are creating unnecessary work for ourselves and may as well remove censors completely. Which we will not, because once again, we maintain a family-friendly image.
