Non-News Writers reporting news on the site. - 06-19-08

It's come to my attention that quite a few members are posting Nintendo news on the website. Now this is not a problem, you are welcome to post news about anything on this website so long as it's appropriate. However, what your unwelcome to do is complain when an official FC news writer reports news on the front page you reported earlier than them.

The News Team's job is to keep the front page fresh with Nintendo news. We don't go looking around this forum to see what news you guys have reported so we can slap our names on it and stick it on the front page. We don't care if you posted this 3 days earlier than us, nor do we care if you want us to delete the article because of it.

If you don't like this then don't post news.

You may still of course post news if you'd like to inform us about it earlier perhaps.
May even receive karma for doing so.

If you do try to help out a News Writer with news for the front page, you must still provide a source. This means the News Writer will then link to the original source; they will not be giving you credit, as it is still someone else's information.

well then if a member finds news and tells a staff member that can post it on the front page but the staff member doesnt give credit that is abit of plagerism dontcha think?
just seems to be weird.. thats all.

That's more a matter of formality. Plagiarism would be if the member in question actually wrote that article, and then the news writer doesn't provide him/her as source.

I actually post news a lot here. A few of my threads are made into articles, and I'm glad they do, more people read them.

Well in most news articles round here that non staff write themselves they give a source. If a staff member saw that & took credit for it when they didn't really find it in the 1st place that in my opinion is wrong. Credit should ALWAYS be given to the person who broke the story first, formality or not. Thats just how good journalism is done.
