Hey everybody,

It has come to the attention of staff members that there have been people pagering/PMing users requesting usernames and passwords to accounts on FC. This is obviously a scam, and just a reminder that you should never give out your password to anyone, not even staff!

Malicious members trying to pull this scam off may tell you that you have a virus or otherwise may offer free "services" that require the password to your account. THIS IS A LIE! If you receive such a message, please take a screenshot of it (On Windows: "Prnt Scr") and send it to me. I'll deal with the scammer immediately.

If you fear you may have given your account password to someone, make sure you change your password immediately, check your post history, and contact a moderator or administrator ASAP. In addition, if your email password is the same as your account password, change it too!

Our staff cannot be responsible for what anybody does with your account password, but we advise you to keep it top secret.

I can't help but urge that you screen shot the pager message or PM if you get it, without it, we can't do anything, because we'll have no proof.

Not quite sure, but my guess it that they might use them for "legit" dupe accounts if they get banned for something, possibly seeding.

I tested the screen shot thing and "prt scr" didn't work!! Is it just that I'm using Fire Fox?

You have to open an image editor such as Paint and then paste into a blank document...save that as an image and send it to a mod.

I would hope that people have enough common sense not to give out their log in info...

Of course, the best defense is just to ignore such a message. One might also choose to block paper messages, depending on how widespread the scam is.
