So how do you like what Brawl has become so far? - 10-08-08

It's been 211 days since it's release...
but what exactly do I mean by my tittle?
We all had expectations of the game...
From absurd character choices most knew would never make it in to the best Nintendo game ever.

I'm sure we've all discussed this at one point in their life but I'd like to know what the FC people think. From a competitive standpoint or a casual one.

In my opinion Brawl failed my expectations.
I slaved away about...2 years of my life to this game...
I can't even begin to explain how many pod casts I listened too, videos I watched, screen shots I analyzed.
It was insane I mean my favorite game Super Smash Brothers Melee was going to get a sequel???
How could there be something better than Melee...
I mean look at what my backpack looked like for god's sake...

I made that in early 2007.

Then it arrived and my love for Brawl slowly died...
Every WiFi lagged infested match...
Every trip I had in an important match or a Tournament...
Everytime a 4 stock matched lasted...8-10 minutes...

You could call me a tourny •••...
But Brawl's metagame will never compare to how advanced Melee was.
It's unique and very complicated physics & combos.
All the AT's it had.

Now where am I going with this rant?
I just want to know what the actual players think of the game so far...
Do you think there is a competitive future for Brawl...
I mean sure tournies are EVERYWHERE...but will it last for 8 years and still keep going like Melee is?
Discuss.

I don't know, but all I know, is me and you can WaveDash in brawl with falcon, marth, fox, falco, and jiggly.. but Melee is better.

I don't think you understand the fact that Brawl hasn't been out as long as Melee. Melee developed through the years, gaining a more vast community throughout. The larger community allowed more advanced concepts to be introduced into competitive playing. Many of those concepts have been taken out as far as we know. Brawl may come out with some game-breaking AT's which may make Brawl even more advanced than Melee. You can't say that it's worse than Melee, when Brawl has barely even been out yet.

There is no doubt that melee is a more competitive game than Brawl. Brawl seemed to be aimed towards the anybody can pickup and play type of thing but there is still a large gap seperating the the skill level, large enough to where it still makes it fun to do tournys and stuff. No doubt that the enthusiasm for brawl is slowly dieing, if it weren't for online play I would be bored. One thing that I particularly enjoy about brawl is that not only 4 characters are used in tourny play or 'serious' matches and that 'most' of the characters are balanced. I have givin up the hardcore fastpaced gaming of melee for the fun online matches of brawl, although lag is annoying and I miss the speed and competitiveness of melee. Brawl might not be cosidered a competitive game but I enjoy it nontheless. Dont count brawl out yet because new AT and such are being discovered only time will tell... I miss my mewtwo :(

Yup, that's pretty much what I would say if I could be bothered to make a long post.

Big difference in the community shift from Smash 64---Melee than Melee---Brawl.

We came from 64 with little to no fanbase and little to no knowledge on how AT's would be found.

Brawl on the other hand, came in with the entire melee fanbase and a bunch of new people and we knew how to glitch the game. We know what we're looking for with AT's now. We know how to exploit the mechanics.

Does that mean that there is no chance of Brawl AT's developing out the rear? No. It means the chances of that happening are significantly less though. I doubt Brawl will reach nearly what Melee did, but losing hope doesn't do too much good either.

I don't agree that Brawl is more balanced. Not in the slightest. Have you seen Metaknight for christ's sake?

In Melee, you saw more than just Fox winning tournaments.

You saw Fox, Falco, Marth, Jigglypuff, Peach, Ice Climbers, Captain Falcon; all placing well in tournaments. Amidst a much smaller cast than the Sacred Seven do now.

Tiers now are pretty much

Metaknight>>>>>Snake>>D3 G&W Falco R.O.B. Marth>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Everyone else.

That's not balanced.

You hit the nail on the head.

I love Brawl, but it did disappoint me a lot, I was shot to pieces when I realized the WiFi failed. After a long time of saving up for a Wii, and buying new controllers, and other things to keep in contact with my brawl buddies. It shot me to pieces, Melee is so much better SSBB. I didnt own a GCN ever in my life, so when I got a Wii, I mainly got it for SSBB but when I got the game I was shocked. I feel your pain bro, I feel ya.

Yeahz, I wuz Gay for Brawl too, until like 1-2 weeks after launch day...

I won't be surprised if tournaments still last, since it's the new thing and everyone wants to get better at it, contrast to the melee side where the tournament scene was huuuge, but took years to assemble. Just give brawl 1-2 years, and it'll either strengthen their tournament scene... or just bond the melee community even tighter.
