Hola. I have an inquiry about my PS2. - 10-11-09

Ok, here's the deal. My sister just bought The Sims: 2, and no matter what we do, it will not load - the Disc Read Error keeps popping up. We've tried other discs: many of our DDR discs won't load, but discs outside that series have worked, oddly enough (that may be due to the fact that we've played our DDR discs the most; however, we just got this Sims 2 disc, although it is Used). PSOne games run perfectly.
I fear it might be overheating; the PS2 vent is faced near our large dresser, and the vent also has a bunch of lint and dust collected around the vent.

If anybody has any insight, please let me know. I don't have any video games to play otherwise. ;~;

That might be one of the problems right there. You could start with cleaning out the entire vent.
As for the DDR/Sims 2 discs, did you happen to check them for any scratches recently?

I had the exact same problem, what I did:

1.I unscrewed all of the screws.
2.Separated the the two main parts.
3.Blew all the dust off of it (with a machine)
4.Put it back together

Hope this kinda helps ;o

Re: Hola. I have an inquiry about my PS2. - 10-17-09

For starters, I moved the PS2 to the center of the room, so it's running a tad better.
However, it still has trouble with the discs. ALL of the DDR discs have scratches, but up until now they all ran. (Some of them had trouble with a couple of the in-game songs, but that's understandable.) The Sims 2 games were all used, but my sister just exchanged for a new one; this one had some scratches around the center. The last one, which had scratches around the perimeter, ran better. :O
So I'll have to clean it, yes?

Power outages, switching the on/off switch in the back a lot or for the PSSlim unplugging it can cause something to go screwy with the disc reader. Check the backs of the discs, if they're all the same color your PS2 is having trouble reading those types of discs and you'll need to get that taken in for repair.

Getting it repaired costs money also.
Or may I suggest googling your problem?

Yes, you will probably have to clean it, but be careful though.

Re: Hola. I have an inquiry about my PS2. - 10-17-09

I did Google the problem, but as I said, I got that the issue is overheating. Plus this is an old PS2 - over five yeard old - AND it's a fat PS2.

I'm a bit weary of opening it for the fear that I'll break something.

I have the fat one too, and I did as what I previously stated, that fixed it. ;o
