Ipod Touch Warranty

On my first day back to school, some ahole bumped into me and knocked my ipod outta my hand. This ended up cracking the screen and damaging the bottom part of my ipod (near the home button on right side) What I was wondering if my warranty (which expires this Christmas, could cover this.

I was thinking of calling Apple support service....

Apple's Limited Warranty for iPod excludes coverage for damage resulting from accident, liquid damage, disassembly, unauthorized service and unauthorized modifications. When a service is not covered under the warranty, Apple will return your original iPod to you without providing service, and may hold you responsible for shipping costs, plus any applicable sales tax.

An iPod that is ineligible for warranty service may be eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service. For example, an iPod that has failed due to damage or liquid damage is ineligible for warranty service but eligible for OOW service. However, certain damage is ineligible for OOW service, including catastrophic damage, such as the device separating into multiple pieces, and inoperability caused by unauthorized modifications. So under the normal warranty that comes with the iPod, you are not eligible for a repair. However, you can send in the broken iPod and pay to have it repaired instead of buying a new one.

It's still not covered by accidental damage. I believe the warranty only covers defects and malfunctions.

^^ That's correct, but the out of warranty repairs may still count. From my experience with Sony and the PSP (I know it's not apple but it's all the same.), they will fix it regardless because the cracked screen impairs the ability to use it, in the example of an iPod Touch, the touch screen may lose funtionality. It's best to send it in regardless and see what happens, if they'll fix it and how much it'll cost. Calling customer support is another option. Be warned though, sometimes the cost to fix outweighs the cost to buy brand-new, as my friend discovered with his iPhone.
