It sounds like the internet that you are trying to use has security settings, and because of that it is blocking the
DS. A lot of WiFi spots do that actually :/ There used to be a website that pinpointed locations that were compatible, but I can't seem to find it anymore :( I'll keep looking and tell you if I can find it :) Just keep trying different places, there are many that block it unfortunately :(
