Lately, some people I know have been having difficulty getting SD Cards to work with their
Wii. So I dug up some information for them, and thought "Hey,
FC.Com could benefit from this.", so...here we are.
Some SD Cards simply refuse to work; this could be due to a variety of issues.
~The
Wii's recommended maximum card size is 2GB; anything higher will likely not work.
~Different models have different speeds apparantly. Some of those with low speeds may work poorly, or not at all.
~If you're trying to put Image, Movie, or Music files on the card, you may be using the wrong file type.
-Music files must be in the .mp3 format, the common .wma format won't do it.
-Image files must be .jpg or .jpeg to work. Up to 8192x8192 is allowed.
-Movie files can be either .avi or .mov. Different video codecs known to be compatible include .mjpeg and .mjpg, though the audio codec may mess things up.
(!)Remember, not ALL files in the above formats may work.
Now if you're looking to buy a new SD Card besides the ones that are clearly marked for use with Wiis, these two models have been licensed by Nintendo for use: SanDisk(I use a 512MB one myself.) & Bensussen Deutsch & Associates, Inc. (BD&A) Switch and Carry. However, that still doesn't mean that other models won't work; I've seen my friend use a Kodac 128MB SDCard, and it worked fine.
I hope these tips help solve the dispute between your SD Card and your
Wii.
