Pokemon Battle Revolution Review
--------------------The First Online Game For the Nintendo Wii in America!--------------------
Name: Pokemon Battle Revolution
Genre: Fantasy Turn-Based Strategy
Release Date: Jun 25, 2007
Players: 1-4
Story Line: The Story is simple. Its much like Pokemon Stadium for the N64 and Pokemon Colosseum. It only consists of battling and not leveling your Pokemon up like an RPG game. You go to different Colosseums around the city of PokeTopia, the name of the Pokemon City that you're in, to challenge all the trainers that have signed up for that Colosseum. The story line didn't really appeal to me so I'm going to give it a 7/10
Extra Info: Also, this Pokemon's newest edition for a Console and not a Handheld is the Nintendo Wi-fi Capabilities. This is the first Nintendo Wii game to have Wi-fi connection in the USA.
One of the great features in the game is that you can create either a custom or rent a rental pass to battle.
The custom pass is custom made by you. (Hope you figured that out. ;)) You can choose which Pokemon you transferred from Pokemon Diamond or Pearl to add to your custom pass. Once you create a team you can customize your catch-phrases, appearance, date of birth, and much, much more.
The rental pass is a default pass thats included in every game. The more Colosseums you beat, the more rental passes you get to choose from. However, you cannot customize your appearance. :(
Gameplay: Pokemon Battle Revolution is played by using the Wii Remote like in other traditional Wii games. One thing that strikes me as I open the box is that there is an extremely small learning curve. The controls are so self-explanatory that the manual is pretty much unnecessary and small kids can figure it out. The menus are explained by the assistant and are also quite simple. The only semi hard part about the gameplay itself is Pokemon battling. But Pokemon Battle Revolution does have a battle tutorial near the option of the Colosseum mode. Anyway, there is a little bit of a learning curve at first but when you get the hang of it it's actually a very fun addition to the gameplay.
Graphics: Are some of the greatest for the Nintendo Wii. All the Pokemon are animated, and they look great. The special affects for when the Pokemon attacks are extraordinary! Each attack has its own specific movements and colors which really add to the graphics. I'm going to give the graphics a 9/10
Sound: There are a variety of different sounds throughout the game, from Pokemon being thrown out for a Poke battle to the announcer telling every move from each Pokemon. The music really adds to the gameplay of the game and definitely makes it more exciting. I also want to add that every Colosseum has a different sound track and it really adapts with the type of level. I loved all the music throughout the game, so I'm going to give it a 9/10
Multiplayer: There are many features for mulit-player. First of all you can copy your Pokemon from Pokemon Diamond or Pearl on to Pokemon Battle Revolution and make a custom pass.(See info under "Extra info" for passes) This makes the Colosseum mode extremely easy.
You can also battle a friend one on one with a custom or rental pass. I haven't tried this yet but I'm sure it works well.
Last of all, it is the first Wi-fi game for the Wii in the USA. The online connection is much better than I expected. You can battle with a friend that you have added to your friend roster or you can battle with a random person that has that game from around the globe. (In both of the modes you can choose which Colosseum you want to battle in)
Battling with a friend you can choose which type of battle you want, single or double, and all the options for it.
Battling with a random person you can request which Colosseum you battle in and if you want a single or double battle, whichever you prefer.
I'm going to give the Multi-player option a 10/10
Pros:
+Decent Storyline
+Graphics are some of the best for the Wii
+Sounds and Music really add to the game and help it out a lot
+Has Online Capabilities
Cons:
-Lack of Mini-Games. I do agree with Zora_Knight.
Overall: This is a wonderful game for all ages, including adults. All the features that add to a great game are there. The Game-play, graphics, sound and of especially the online multi-player that Pokemon Battle Revolution has really adds too the games overall score, which I'm going to give a 9.5/10
The game is available at any local game-stores.
