Tatsunoko vs Capcom

Are you the biggest Viewtful Joe fanboy out there? Have you been watching Yatterman since you could barely walk? Prepare to take sides when Tatsunoko vs Capcom: Ultimate Alliance (Tatsunoko vs Capcom: Cross Generation of Heroes in Japan) is released in the US. You'll be able to choose from an array of both Capcom and Tatsunoko's characters and battle against an opponent in a traditional 2D fighter style until someone gets KOed.

The game has been out in Japan since December of 2008, but due to various licensing problems surrounding the characters, it's taken them a while to work around them and bring this game to the states.

Published by: Capcom
Developed by: Eighting
Console: Nintendo Wii
Release Date: TBA
Genre: Fighting
ESRB Rating: RP

Gameplay:

If you've ever played games like Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat, you're familiar with the setup of an arcade-style fighter like Tatsunoko vs Capcom. Instead of the usual 2D environment, however, the game sports a "2.5D" setting, combining 3D backgrounds and character models while keeping the traditional 2D gameplay.

Unlike other fighting titles, the attack system is very simplistic. You have 3 options: weak, medium, and strong attacks. Using these, you and a partner must deplete the health bars of the opposing team while sustaining your own by switching out to heal.

You can use the Wiimote, Wiimote + Nunchuck, Classic Controller, or Gamecube controller to play.

The modes of gameplay are as follows:
  • VS Mode: Play against a friend in 2 player mode.
  • Time Attack: Objective is to defeat every character in the game in the shortest amount of time possible.
  • Survival: Again, defeat every character, but your health bar regeneration is limited.
  • Arcade: Player faces a series of battles against CPUs until they reach the final boss, Yami.

Cast:

Tatsunoko
  • Ken the Eagle from Science Ninja Team Gatchaman
  • Casshan from Neo-Human Casshern
  • Tekkaman from Tekkaman: The Space Knight

  • PTX-40A from Lost Planet: Extreme Condition
  • Roll from Mega Man
  • Saki Omokane from Quiz Nanairo Dreams
  • Viewtiful Joe from Viewtiful Joe
  • Yami from Ōkami

Features:

All of the characters in the original Japanese version (except one, Hakushon Daimaō from The Genie Family) will be appearing in the American version. Not only that, but there will be 4 brand new characters added; two from Capcom and two from Tatsunoko. One of Tatsunoko's new characters, Tekkaman Blade, has already been announced, and the remaining 3 will be announced at the Tokyo Game Show 2009.

The North American version will have 3 new additions on top of the new characters.
  • Enhanced storyline.
  • More mini-games.
  • Online play through the Nintendo WiFi Connection.

Details on those three points haven't yet been released, but expect new information to surface in the near future.

Statistics
  • Famitsu magazine gave the game a 32 out of 40, calling the gameplay flat due to the repetitive combo system, but also praising the character variety and fighting system.
  • As of June 2009, 41,672 copies of the game have been sold in Japan.
  • Won the Best Fighting Game award at E3 2009.

The game is very very fun. But its slow not too slow, but its not fast enough to be a "Great" fighting game.

But its still fun.

The game isnt realy fast i have played it several times this game isn't even worth buying tbh it lacks so much it was to rushed in my opinion. Street fighter alpha 2 was faster the graphics are not that appealing the choice of characters isnt that good plus the game came out at the wrong time. Everyone is thinking of getting tekken six, halo3odst , marvel vs capcom or blazblue. this game would of been better if they had waited a bit.
When modern warfare 2 comes out this game would be a distant memory.
