Exclamation Wii causes cancer? - 06-27-2008

Ok first of all I didn't know where else to put this thread so no bashing about it being here.

Now that that's out of the way, I need to ask something of all of you that actually read this. My aunt keeps complaining about my wii and says that it causes cancer. She said she learned about this farfetched fact from the army and has papers to prove it. From what I've been told from her, the wii causes cancer with it's wiimote. Since it shoots out infrared at the screen it bounces back and hits you causing cancer.

I don't know if someone's already posted something like this, so let me know about any info supporting this odd theory. Also it is ok to laugh at this as many people already have. If you do find info about this send it to my email: super_tails77@hotmail.com or on msn which is the same thing or just post it here. I do not agree with what my aunt says because of the little research I have done already about infrared's affect on people and because of my love of the wii. I will continue to play it regardless of the affects.

Laters,

There are a lot of things that supposedly give you cancer. Cell phones and microwaves are just a few. I'm not going to worry about it though. Even if I don't use them, there is no way to realistically avoid being near a cell phone. Plus I don't think any of that has been really proven as fact. I wouldn't worry about it.

Well my Science teacher said we shouldnt use mobile phones so much cause the wireless in them gives off radiation that can cause cancer but the radiation is very small
So i suppose since the Wii is wireless it would give off a little radiation
I dont really know

I don't see how thats possible.Wouldn't Nintendo research this during the creation of the Wii?Because I highly doubt cancer was their intention of a Wii feature. Can we get a link,URL, or mabye see those papers somehow. This could be another case of Wii propaganda, and rumors.Besides there are many things that can give cancer and they're quite common, however the chances are infinitesimal.

Driving cars occasionally causes death.
Gas cookers may give you a burn.
Knives can quite easily cut you.

This world is full of danger that comes with not using things correctly. With the Wiimote being so small, I hardly doubt it's going to give you cancer (if it's true).

And anyway, as said before, everything gives you something these days. It's hard to find a new technical gizmo that doesn't harm our body in one way or another.

dude bacon causes cancer...really everything causes cancer

i really dont think you should be worrying about getting cancer from your wii...you are at a greater risk from the sun...if you were so worried about it you should just live in your parents basement for the next 40 years

Re: Wii causes cancer? - 06-27-2008

Pretty much anything that gives out any kind of frequencies can be a factor towards causing cancer, not the cause.

I wouldn't worry about it. All these rumors are mostly stemmed from paranoia. In a world where technological advancements are inevitable, there will always be some people who reject it, because they fear it. This fear causes others to also become paranoid about their technology. If Wiis were dangerous, why would they set them up in children's hospitals all over North America?

In short the people who spread such propaganda are the real cancer.

Even if it did cause cancer... what better way to die than while having fun?

Wow, that was morbid.

That's like my cousin telling me to be a Republican instead of a Democrat.

I really don't care that much...
